Bainbridge Dental Care Services

For Our Anxious Patients

For some people, visiting the dentist can be a stressful experience. It is estimated that 35 million adults experience anxiety at the mere thought of an upcoming dental visit—and they may end up postponing their appointment. We want to assure you that we understand and we’re here to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Here are a few tips to help you relax
before a dental visit:

• Tell us if you feel fearful, tense or anxious. Bringing your fears into the open can help us tailor the treatment and pace to suit your needs.

• Try to schedule your visit for a time when you won’t be rushed or physically strained.

• Get a good night’s sleep the night before and eat light meals the day of your appointment.

• Wear loose, comfortable clothes to your appointment. Avoid wearing tight collars or clothes that restrict your movement.

• Arrange a signal with Dr. Criswell and the staff—such as raising your hand to indicate you need a break.

• Listen to Music. Just tell us the music you like; we’ll give you a set of headphones and program in your favorite tunes on our computer. Although we can’t eliminate the sound of our equipment, you can drown it out with your favorite music. It’s amazing how it relaxes you.

Our number one goal is to provide you
with gentle, quality dental care.

If you’d like a little more help with your nerves, you might like:

Oraqix

Oraqix is a revolutionary new non-injection anesthetic for hygiene and periodontal applications. The anesthetic is delivered to the treatment site without the use of a needle and anesthetizes the area within 30 seconds for a period of approximately 20 minutes, without residual numbness of lips and tongue, making cleanings easy for even the most sensitive patients.

Nitrous Oxide (laughing Gas)

If you are just a little nervous about having people working in your mouth, you may want to use some nitrous oxide. A small rubber hood is placed over your nose and you breathe a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. It is very relaxing and calming. With it and the noise-reducing headphones, many people who thought they were terrified actually doze off during their appointments.
